IGCSE Global
Perspectives,
research + argue.
Cambridge 0457 — the cross-curricular IGCSE that develops research, critical thinking and communication skills. Individual research, team project and a written exam on global issues.
The cross-curricular IGCSE. Research skills, critical thinking, argumentation and teamwork — increasingly valued alongside traditional academic subjects.
Global Perspectives teaches how to argue with evidence.
IGCSE Global Perspectives (0457) is unlike any other IGCSE. It does not test subject knowledge — it tests research skills, critical thinking, argumentation and the ability to evaluate multiple perspectives on global issues such as conflict, migration, technology and sustainability.
Why GP matters
GP is increasingly required or recommended by top international schools as a complement to traditional subject IGCSEs. It develops the exact skills that IB TOK, university essays and workplace communication demand — structured research, source evaluation and evidence-based argumentation.
Assessment is 100% coursework + one exam
Component 1 is a written exam on global issues. Components 2 and 3 are an individual research report and a team project — both submitted as coursework. Coaching the research methodology and writing structure is where Times Edu makes the biggest difference.

Why even strong students lose marks here.
Three traps we see most often — every one is fixable with focused coaching.
Weak source evaluation
The individual report must evaluate source reliability and bias. Students who only summarise sources cap at grade C.
One-sided argument
Both the exam and the report reward multiple perspectives. Students who argue one side without engaging counterarguments lose significant marks.
Team project freeloading
Component 3 marks individual contribution within the team. Students who let teammates carry the work score poorly on their personal reflection.
From diagnostic to final grade.
Global Perspectives taught me how to research and argue properly. My individual report scored 28/30 — and the skills transferred directly into my IB TOK essay two years later.
What families always ask.
Is GP a "real" subject for university applications?
Yes — it demonstrates research and critical thinking skills that universities value. It is increasingly listed alongside traditional subjects on school transcripts.
Can GP help with IB preparation?
Directly — GP's research and argumentation skills are the exact foundation for IB TOK, EE and the individual oral across multiple subjects.
Does my child choose the research topic?
Yes — within broad thematic guidelines. We help students choose focused, researchable topics with available sources during the coaching process.
How much time does the team project take?
Typically 15–20 hours including meetings, research, production and individual reflection. We coach students through effective team management.
