AP Calculus AB covers the equivalent of a first-semester college calculus course. Skipping justification
FRQ rubrics award 1–2 marks per question for verbal justification ("because f' changes sign"). Students who write only numbers lose those marks every time.
Calculator over-reliance
30 of 45 MCQ are no-calculator. Students who rely on TI-84 at school consistently underperform on the non-calculator section.
Weak FTC understanding
The Fundamental Theorem of Calculus is tested directly or indirectly on every exam. Students who memorise rather than understand it lose 8–12 points.

Is Calc AB enough for engineering or should my child take BC?
For most US engineering programmes, AB is sufficient — BC earns slightly more credit but is not required. If your child is aiming for MIT, Caltech or Stanford, BC is stronger. We advise during the diagnostic.
How is AB different from BC?
AB covers a first-semester college calculus course. BC covers both semesters — adding series, parametric and polar. The AB subset is embedded inside BC. We teach both.
Can a student with weak algebra succeed in Calc AB?
With preparation, yes — but we usually recommend 4–6 weeks of pre-calculus review before diving into limits. We assess this in the diagnostic.
How many hours per week should my child study?
Most of our Calc AB students book 2–3 sessions per week for 12–16 weeks before the May exam. We recommend the exact cadence after the diagnostic.
