IGCSE Coordinated
Sciences,
double award.
Cambridge 0654 Coordinated Sciences — similar to Combined Science (0653) but with a coordinated syllabus that more closely mirrors the separate science IGCSEs. The preferred double-award science at most international schools in Vietnam.
The coordinated double-award science IGCSE. Closer to Triple Science in content depth than Combined (0653) — the default science choice at most international schools.
Coordinated Sciences is the most common science IGCSE in Vietnam.
IGCSE Coordinated Sciences (0654) is a double-award qualification covering Physics, Chemistry and Biology. It is very similar to Combined Science (0653) but with a coordinated syllabus structure that more closely mirrors the content of the separate science IGCSEs (0625, 0620, 0610). This makes it a better stepping stone to A-Level or IB sciences than Combined.
Why most schools in Vietnam use 0654
0654 is the most widely-taken science IGCSE in Vietnam's international school system because it provides broad science coverage while keeping A-Level and IB science options open. The content depth sits between Combined (lighter) and Triple Science (deeper).
Our coaching model
Just like Combined Science, we assign specialist mentors for each discipline — your child works with a Physics specialist, a Chemistry specialist and a Biology specialist, coordinated through a single academic plan.
The full content we cover.
Every Times Edu Coordinated Sciences mentor maps lessons directly to the official syllabus — nothing on the exam is a surprise.
Mechanics & Thermal
Forces, motion, energy, thermal physics.
Waves, Electricity & Nuclear
Waves, circuits, magnetism, nuclear physics.
Atoms & Stoichiometry
Atomic structure, bonding, moles, equations.
Reactions & Organic
Rates, equilibrium, acids, organic chemistry basics.
Cells & Human Biology
Cell biology, nutrition, transport, respiration.
Genetics & Ecology
Inheritance, variation, ecosystems, human impact.
Paper 5 or 6
Practical test or Alternative to Practical per discipline.
Exam Strategy
Managing six papers across three sciences under time pressure.
Every paper and assessment, mapped.
Knowing the format is half the battle. Here is the full breakdown.
Theory + MCQ
Paper 1 (MCQ) + Paper 3 or 4 (structured) for Physics.
Theory + MCQ
Paper 1 (MCQ) + Paper 3 or 4 (structured) for Chemistry.
Theory + MCQ
Paper 1 (MCQ) + Paper 3 or 4 (structured) for Biology.
Paper 5 or 6
Practical or Alternative to Practical — covers all three.
Why even strong students lose marks here.
Three traps we see most often — every one is fixable with focused coaching.
Assuming 0654 is easy
Students who treat Coordinated as "Triple Science Lite" under-prepare and plateau at BB. The content is close to separate sciences in depth.
Ignoring the weakest science
Most students have one weak science. Leaving it to last-minute revision is the #1 reason students miss A*A*. We front-load the weakest discipline.
Practical paper under-drill
Paper 5/6 covers all three sciences and is often the deciding factor between A*A* and AB. We drill it systematically from 8 weeks before exams.
From diagnostic to final grade.
Coordinated Sciences felt like sitting three IGCSEs in one exam window. Times Edu gave me three specialist mentors and a unified study plan. Final: A*A*. Would have been BB without coaching.
What families always ask.
What is the difference between 0653 and 0654?
0654 (Coordinated) has slightly more content depth than 0653 (Combined) and aligns more closely with the separate science syllabi. Most international schools in Vietnam use 0654.
Can my child take A-Level Physics after 0654?
Yes — 0654 provides a solid foundation. Students who scored A or A* in the Physics component transition well to A-Level Physics with modest bridging work.
Is it really graded as two IGCSEs?
Yes — Coordinated Sciences is a double-award qualification appearing as two grades on the transcript (e.g. A*A, AB, BB).
How many exam papers is it in total?
Six theory papers (two per discipline) plus practical papers — typically 7–8 papers in total. We build a revision timetable that spreads preparation evenly.
